Abstract
This study aimed to identify factors associated with the use of Modern Contraceptive Methods (MCMs) among couples in the Bagira health zone. It was a cross-sectional analytical study conducted among couples residing in the Bagira health zone. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. A descriptive analysis followed by multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify factors associated with the use of modern contraceptive methods. The rate of modern contraceptive method users was 69%. The majority of respondents used hormonal contraceptive methods (15.94%), non-hormonal methods (35.34%), and natural methods (48.70%). The pill was the most common hormonal method (72.97%), condoms (78.04%) were the most common non-hormonal method, and the Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM) (68.14%) was the most common natural contraceptive method. The majority of couples (86.4%) prefer to space their children 2 to 4 years apart, a practice recommended for maternal and child health. Multivariate analysis showed that the following factors were associated with higher rates of contraceptive use: unemployment (p < 0.05), married status (p < 0.05), age group ≤ 2 years (p = 0.05), age group 21-34 years (p = 0.05), education level (primary school) (p = 0.05), income level (50-100 years) (p = 0.05), proximity to the Health Center (< 5 km) (p = 0.05), and births occurring ≥ 2 years apart (p = 0.05). The use of modern contraceptive methods in Bagira is improving and is primarily influenced by marital dynamics, women's economic empowerment, and sociocultural acceptance.
