Abstract

The birth interval constitutes one of the relevant indicators in reproductive health which makes it possible to assess the use of family planning. Indeed, the short inter-birth interval is less than 24 months among adolescent mothers, leading to the deterioration of their reproductive health and contributing to the occurrence of pregnancies that are too close together, too early, unwanted, at high risk, thus causing maternal mortality in the Urban-rural health zone of Bandundu where community leaders do not adhere to respecting this practice. Alongside the co-construction with the ideal of improving the maternal health of adolescent mothers, this study aims to understand the perception of community leaders on the short inter-birth interval among adolescents in this geographical region. We used a qualitative phenomenological approach which analyzed the narrative information of community leaders whose results showed that they do not commit to respecting the interval inter-reproductive in adolescents, which leads to unwanted pregnancies and many other consequences. Furthermore, with a view to ensuring that the inter-birth interval is respected among adolescents, it is imperative to involve and/or involve community leaders in reproductive health activities and to promote and encourage the use of modern contraceptive methods among them, organize education and awareness on sexuality, strengthen respect for laws on adolescent sexuality, fight against local translation and strengthen the capacities of adolescents on the prevention of unwanted pregnancies. as well as respecting the inter-birth interval.
